For some young people, learning workplace skills in a classroom isn't enough.
Zilla Pathways is a structured environment in Heidelberg where participants practise genuine tasks and routines, and experience what work can actually feel like — with support around them.
Participants aren't necessarily being trained to become chefs. Hospitality simply gives us a real-world environment with real tasks, routines and standards — a place where skills can be practised rather than just discussed.
The bigger goal is helping young people discover what they're good at. Success builds confidence, and confidence makes the next step into employment, training or greater independence far less intimidating.
The goal isn't to turn everyone into a chef. It's to help young people discover what they're capable of.
Real skills. Real experience. Real confidence.
Zilla Pathways is a specialised work-readiness and confidence-building program. Our primary focus is young people who are:
Every young person is different, so suitability is always determined individually — based on the participant's goals, interests, support needs and ability to take part in the program safely. The free Meet & Greet is how we work that out together.
Every session is tailored to the individual. The focus is on building practical skills, confidence, independence and positive work habits at a comfortable pace.
Washing, portioning and prepping — a calm start with clear, achievable tasks.
Getting organised, checking equipment and learning how a workspace is kept safe and tidy.
Working through genuine steps and instructions, with a support person alongside.
Checking, labelling and packing — building attention to detail and consistency.
Hygiene, resetting the space and finishing properly, the way any workplace does.
A short chat about what went well, what to try next, and what they discovered they're good at.
Before enrolling, every prospective participant can attend a free 30–45 minute meet-and-greet — with a parent, carer or support person if they'd like one there.
It's a relaxed, no-pressure visit: see the environment, meet the team, ask questions and talk about interests and goals. It also helps us understand support needs, so we can work out together whether Zilla Pathways feels like the right fit.
No obligation. No NDIS funding required for the introductory session.
A participant, parent, carer or support coordinator gets in touch with Zilla Pathways.
A free 30–45 minute introduction — meet the team, see the environment and try some practical activities.
We talk through interests, goals and support needs together. There is no obligation to continue.
If it's a good fit, we develop a starting approach around the participant's goals, abilities and interests.
Hospitality provides the training environment, but the abilities participants build are broad. Many of these skills transfer into retail, warehousing, food production, cleaning, logistics and other industries.

A traditional workplace can be overwhelming when someone is still developing confidence. Zilla Pathways sits in the middle ground — genuine workflows and responsibilities, with the support, repetition and structure needed to improve.
Families often know a young person has abilities, but may not yet know where those abilities best fit in the workforce. Zilla Pathways helps provide opportunities to explore practical tasks, develop consistency and uncover strengths.

Refer a ParticipantOur longer-term vision is to develop a dedicated supported training hub containing several controlled real-world work environments.
These may include commercial food preparation and delivery-only food concepts, order fulfilment, stock handling, packing and other practical workplace activities. This is our future vision — not a facility that exists today.
The goal is simple: create more places where young people can discover what they're good at and build the confidence to take their next step.
